Capio Healthcare UK operates a network of acute and mental health hospitals and Independent Sector Treatment Centres across the UK
It has made substantial investments to replace legacy distributed administration systems with a new shared systems architecture with aggressive implementation timescales.
Whilst Capio had benefited from prior initiatives to adopt common efficient practices, in reality every hospital operated similar but different processes. It was recognised that there was further scope to share and develop better practices as well as to leverage the new systems functionality to change the way people worked.
The company adopted a process led implementation methodology to aid the planning and adoption of change. The system vendor needed a clear understanding of the business process variances and the local information requirements to drive configuration and customisation work. Each hospital needed their own plan to transition from their ‘as is’ to the ‘to be’ working practices.
Capio considered the merits of investing in an in house process management capability, but given the time, effort and scale of roll out required, the SMART service from Xenogenix offered many practical advantages. Xenogenix provided the process management skills, methods and hosted application software to rapidly capture, control, and communicate the process information that people need to prepare for change and to train people in new ways of working.
Capio now has a central process information repository which is growing as each hospital upgraded. As new working practices are developed, the information can be kept up to date and used to aid ongoing performance improvement.
