Coaching and Mentoring

Olympic gold medallists understand the need for effective coaching and mentoring. We apply the same principles that Mike McIntyre learned in his quest win Olympic Gold in Seoul in 1988.

There's a lot of confusion about the difference between training, coaching and mentoring, so here is how we think of them:

  • Training involves the transfer of knowledge that enables someone to become ‘consciously competent’ to perform tasks.
  • Coaching guides people to best use their new found knowledge, develop improved skills and expertise, and become ‘unconsciously competent’
  • Mentoring is challenging discussion, free of vested interest, between experts. It keeps minds open to new alternative perspectives, better ways to do things and the consequences of tough decisions.
